eLearning on the School Bus!

I read a fascinating article in US News and World Report about children that live in a rural town outside of Little Rock, AK, going to school on a school bus that has internet access. The students have a 90 minute ride to school and it was the brainchild of a Vanderbilt University professor to have a class on the bus after seeing the children bored to tears on the long commute. Professor Billy Hudson felt that these children that lived in rural communities would have a better chance at college by having internet access to advanced courses. After seeing the success of the mobile class, he applied for federal grants to expand the program into rural Tennessee.

The children study math and science and are thrilled about their new learning method. The bus looks like every other bus in the school fleet except that it has a cellular router and a rooftop antenna on the bus. The kids love that they have their own professors and they have to take a test at the end of every lesson. And it makes their commute not only quick but productive as well! Amazing! Truly, learning on the go! Here's the article, if you're interested. http://www.usnews.com/articles/education/e-learning/2008/01/10/this-bus-is-plugged-in.html

This is a fantastic finding!
I think this will become a national norm for school districts.
But, I'm concerned with a new proposal of stamping school buses with advertisements. That issue is this articles antagonist.
