A closer look at Web 2.0 applications

After reading Mrs. Kreisher’s blog that had a frameshot of the Web 2.0 directory, I decided to see what all was there. Wow! Too much for one day, but I still browsed. My focus today was on educational uses of Web 2.0. I came across Protagonize.com, which I thought might be beneficial to Communications teachers in courses such as Creative Writing. Clearly caution would have to be used, because if anyone can write then anything can be written. In the terms of agreement, there are strict uses of this site but there’s always someone who gets around it somehow. Bottom line: make sure your students understand what they can and cannot write, and keep a close watch at what they are reading and editing.
Another pretty useful site for educational purposes that is directed more towards parents and students is beanbag, an online request service for local tutors. It’s free, but it is not accessible everywhere. Locally, this probably wouldn’t be the best site to use. You can place an ad for a tutor in your area, but there is no promising that one will show up in the time frame that you need. If you live in an area that is more technologically savvy, there is probably a better chance that this site will work for you.
